چکیده

We describe a study on the interaction design of incar navigation systems. It focused on a commercial product. Critical incident analysis was performed based on natural use of the system by a usability analyst. A cognitive walkthrough was then performed based on actual scenarios from the natural use. This is a non-classic application of cognitive walkthrough. It allowed anecdotal critical incidents to be theoretically grounded. We draw conclusions about the interaction design of car navigation systems.

Intelligent Control System Design for Car Following Maneuver Based on the Driver’s Instantaneous Behavior

Due to the increasing demand for traveling in public transportation systems and increasing traffic of vehicles, nowadays vehicles are getting to be intelligent to increase safety, reduce the probability of accident and also financial costs. Therefore, today, most vehicles are equipped with multiple safety control and vehicle navigation systems. In the process of developing such systems, simulat...

SatNav or SatNag? A Case Study Analysis of Evolving HCI Issues for In-Car Computing

A wide range of in-car computing systems are either already in existence or under development which aim to improve the safety, efficiency and the comfort/pleasure of the driving experience. Several unique forces act on the design process for this technology which must be understood by HCI researchers. In particular, this is an area in which safety concerns dominate perspectives. In this positio...

EMU in the Car: Evaluating Multimodal Usability of a Satellite Navigation System

The design and evaluation of multimodal systems has traditionally been a craft skill. There are some well established heuristics, guidelines and frameworks for assessing multimodal interactions, but no established methodologies that focus on the design of the interaction between user and system in context. In this paper, we present EMU, a systematic evaluation methodology for reasoning about th...

Can Planning and Reactive Systems Realize an Autonomous Navigation

The major challenges facing navigation of an autonomous mobile robot and need to be addressed are stem from, incomplete and uncertain knowledge of the environment, unpredictable aspects of real environment and surroundings, sensor limitation and uncertainty of sensory information (range, resolution limits, noise and occlusions), uncertainty in the effects of the robot own action (imperfect actu...

A Hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS Sensor Fusion with WLFP for Flying Robo-SAR's Navigation

In this paper, we present the results of a hierarchical SLAM/GPS/INS/WLFP sensor fusion to be used in navigation system devices. Due to low quality of the inertial sensors, even a short-term GPS failure can lower the integrated navigation performance significantly. In addition, in GPS denied environments, most navigation systems need a separate assisting resource, in order to increase the avail...
